Developing a project that includes a playground requires considering different factors that can influence the final result; in this post, we will summarize the main challenges faced by landscape architects when developing this type of project.

Playground location

When we refer to the playground location, there are safety, land, shades, and the path children have to take to get to it. As for the land where the playground is to be placed, it has to be a spacious place that provides space for the equipment that makes up the playground and where children can run freely. It is also necessary to contemplate the path that children and their parents must take to get to the playground. The road must be safe, away from the highway, so there can be no cars risks. The ideal route should be short and direct, either from a classroom or readily accessible in a community park. Another essential factor of the location that affects the playground equipment’s duration is the natural shade they may have. Otherwise, fabric shades are the best option to improve the children’s experience and the playground equipment’s durability.

Playground supplier in British Columbia: Security and warranty

When choosing a playground supplier, we must ensure that the supplier meets British Columbia’s safety and quality obligations, which will provide confidence in the installed equipment and durability that will provide it with longer service life. An example of safety and quality is understanding the distribution of equipment to avoid accidents; installation should be considered, floor covering, and the quality of the materials that make up the equipment.

Users of different ages

Landscape architects must consider when doing a project an inclusive playground that allows children of different abilities and ages to participate in the activity. A few years ago, the playgrounds were divided by age, often separating families with children in different age ranges. Currently, that difference is disappearing due to the inclusion of equipment that can be used for young and old.

These advantages allow children to interact with their older siblings by participating in activities that motivate them more and learning to share experiences that promote social development as individuals. Parents are also favored because, in one place, they can control their children of different ages. In comparison, they enjoy their adventures and stories in one place in complete safety.

Type of floors

Finally, the floors that lead to the playgrounds. When children play and run at full speed, they can suffer falls and scrapes. For that reason, there is no need to skimp on the expense when it comes to flooring. Rubber floors are one of the best options because they allow us to control the thickness we place to cushion falls and shocks. Sometimes, depending on the budget, we can use other types of surfaces such as sand, wood chips, or artificial grass.
